The Holy Bible & Child Discipline
 |

mother,' and, `Anyone who curses his father or mother must be put to death.' |
 |
Leviticus 20:9 (English-NIV)--"`If anyone curses his father
or mother, he must be put to death. He has cursed his father or his mother, and his blood
will be on his own head. |
 |
Deuteronomy 21:18-21 (English-NIV)--If a man has a stubborn and
rebellious son who does not obey his father and mother and will not listen to them when
they discipline him, his father and mother shall take hold of him and bring him to the
elders at the gate of
his town. They shall say to the elders, "This son of ours is stubborn and rebellious.
He will not obey us. He is a profligate and a drunkard." Then all the men of
his town shall stone him to death. You must purge the evil from among you. All Israel will
hear of it and be afraid. |
 |
Matthew 15:4 (English-NIV)--For God said, `Honor your father and
mother' and `Anyone who curses his father or mother must be put to death.' |
 |
Mark 7:10 (English-NIV)--For Moses said, `Honor your father and

 |
Proverbs 13:24 -- "He who spares the rod hates his son, but
he who loves him disciplines him promptly." |
 |
Proverbs 19:18 -- Discipline your children while they are young
enough to learn. If you don't you are helping them destroy themselves. |
 |
Proverbs 21:15 -- Children will naturally do silly, careless
things, but a good spanking will teach them how to behave. |
 |
Proverbs 23:13 -- Don't hesitate to discipline children. A good
spanking won't kill them. As a matter of fact it may save their lives. |
 |
Proverbs 23:22 -- Listen to your father. Without him you would
not exist. When your mother is old, show her your appreciation. |
 |
Proverbs 29:15 -- Correction and discipline are good for children
... |
 |
Ephesians 5:24 -- Wives must submit themselves completely to
their husbands just as the church submits itself to Christ. |
 |
Daniel 13:62 -- As the law of Moses prescribes, they were given
the same punishment as they had schemed to inflict on their neighbor. They were put to
death. |
Jesus condemned the Pharisees [read: jews]
for failure to uphold God's law and adhering to their own "traditions of the
elders" by refusing to "put to death" children who cursed their parents.
Matthew 15
1 Then some Pharisees and teachers of the law came to Jesus from Jerusalem and asked, 2
"Why do your disciples break the tradition of the elders? They don't wash their hands
before they eat!" 3 Jesus replied, "And why do you break the command of God for
the sake of your tradition? 4 For God said, `Honor your father and mother' and `Anyone who
curses his father or mother must be put to death.' 5 But you say that if a man says
to his father or mother, `Whatever help you might otherwise have received from me is a
gift devoted to God,' 6 he is not to `honor his father' with it. Thus you nullify the word
of God for the sake of your tradition. 7 You hypocrites! Isaiah was right when he
prophesied about you: 8 "`These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are
far from me. 9 They worship me in vain; their teachings are but rules taught by men.'
This scripture says a LOT. Jesus is condemning the jews for failing to uphold God's
law, which requires that children who curse "their father or mother must be put to
death". This is not merely a requirement for children to "honor their parents
and take care of their needs". This is a precise description of the punishment which
God says must be meted out to unruly children. He's not just passing on an off-hand
suggestion that children like their parents--He's condemning the jews for not putting
children to death who curse their parents.
This is Jesus Christ Himself reminding the jews, and US, that child discipline is so
important that children who can't be disciplined "must be put to death". He's
saying that children can't use the excuse that however they help their parents "is a
gift devoted to God" [read: that their parents should consider it a favor if ever
children do something for their parents].
It is "the tradition of the elders" [read: man's law] which interfered in the
family relationship when Jesus came, and it is man's law [read: family law] which
interferes with it today, and both were modeled after exactly the same "tradition of
the elders".
It was not sufficient for Jesus to just preach to the jews that they were ignoring
God's law. It was necessary for him to remind them what punishment is specified by God. To
leave the discipline and punishment out misrepresents what Jesus said, and what his
intentions were.
Consider how different our society would be today if we heeded this simple Commandment
from God, which was repeated by Jesus Christ. Consider how different your
"interpretation" is from the original Words of God.
