Results of search of FARS data base June 12, 2001,
after NHTSA processed the data in their "statistical model":
 | 9,925 of 102,382 people in fatal accidents in 1998
were classified by NHTSA as "alcohol involved". |
| 3,169 or 32% of those who are "alcohol
involved" were not drivers (they were passengers, pedestrians, bicyclists, etc.).
|
| 3,673 or 37% of those drivers who are "alcohol
involved" were not determined to have had a bac > .10% |
| this leaves 3083 who were drivers who were determined
to have had a bac > .10%, which is:
 | 31% of the 9,925 who were classified by NHTSA as
"alcohol involved". |
| 8.2% of the 37,631 fatal crashes.

| 5.4% of the 56,922 drivers who were involved in fatal
accidents |
| 3% of the 102,382 who were involved in accidents.
