Disobedience to Husband:
Blasphemy of the Word of God
To study exactly what's meant by "blasphemy" in the following verse, a forum
was opened on Paltalk on Sunday, June 5, 2005 entitled "House of Israel: women
pastors are blasphemy". The forum quickly became the largest forum in the
Christian section of Paltalk, during which we learned quite a bit about how American women
regard their role in society:
Titus 2:5 To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that
the word of God be not blasphemed.
While a number of women expressed their full agreement and support of this verse, a
majority of women, and several men, expressed shock, dismay, anger, hostility, hatred,
disbelief, confusion, ignorance, and violence. This was all without ever a single
person carefully examining the actual meaning of the Greek word "hupotasso"
[Strong's #5293] from which "obedient" was translated:
From G5259 and G5021; to subordinate; reflexively to obey:
- be under obedience (obedient), put under, subdue unto, (be, make) subject (to, unto), be
(put) in subjection (to, under), submit self unto.
Simply for examining this verse, we were accused of domestic violence, promoting
domestic violence, hating women, abusing women, blaspheming the word of God,
misrepresenting Scripture, being anti-Christians, threatened with censorship, ridiculed,
and told that any husband who would "treat his wife this way" would "meet
his maker", "be shot on the spot", and "reported to 911".
While the laundry list of reasons American wives believe theyr'e not subject to the Word
of God continues to grow, the full impact of the military meaning of "hupotosso"
has yet to sink in:
- You're promoting spousal abuse by talking like this.
- Why do you hate women so much!?
- I'm going to make SURE that your forum is banned from Paltalk FOREVER!
- You sound like ApostleDBM who was banned from Paltalk "FOREVER"!
- You're trying to justify making a woman into a slave.
- Women are not under the law, so this verse cannot apply to women.
- This is not in the Old Testament so it can't apply to us today.
- This is not in the New Testament so it can't apply to us today.
- You're mis-reading this verse.
- The Bible is not being read correctly.
- This verse does not apply if the husband is not a believer.
- This verse does not apply if the husband is not a Christian.
- You could talk like this only if you hate women.
- This is not the way Judaism works [noooooooo
kiiiiiiiiiding?!!].
- If my husband treated me like this "he'd see his maker".
- If my nextdoor neighbor treated his wife like this "I'd shoot him
on the spot".
- This verse is not even in the Bible.
- The Bible is written in a mystical language which only jews can understand, and explain.
- This is not the Word of God--it's nothing but the "writings of men".
- I, Michael the Archangel, declare this passage to be null and viod, completely removed
from Scripture, invalid, and contrar to all modern concepts.
- You can't really expect a woman to be perfect all the time.
- I obey my husband: most of the time.
- I HATE to cook.
- God would not treat women this way.
- You're supposed to love your wife, not treat her like an inanimate object.
- A husband has certain [unspecified] obligations before the wife should obey him.
- A wife shouldn't obey her husband if he's an "abuser".
- A wife shouldn't obey her husband if he's an alcoholic.
- A wife shouldn't obey her husband if he doesn't love her.
- A wife shouldn't obey a husband if he doesn't obey her.
- You're an ancient old man from a lost era: men and women are "equal" these
days.
- Which century do you live in--this is the 21st Century.
- You're setting women back from all the gains they've made.
- The husband should love his wife first, and only then should she obey him.
- You can't have just one rule for all situations because each situation is different.
- Women are not possessions like furniture.
- I'd bet that you treat your furniture better than you treat women.
- What woman would want to put up with you?
- I sure hope you don't have kids.
- If you have kids, they should be taken from you.
