Comparison of Worldwide Rape Convictions

Statcan, the Canadian statistics organization, reports that there were 52 Canadians convicted of rape in 1952, a conviction rate of 0.37 per 100,000 population.  This conviction rate remained relatively stable over the next 20 years, until 1972, which is the last year that these statistics were available on that site.  A UN data source shows that the rate in 1986 was up 27%, to 0.47, which should have been cause for alarm, but this sharp increase didn't seem to grab the attention of the Canadian or US media.  What should *really* have rung the bells is that this rate increased another 5 fold over the next five years, to 2.31.  A greater than six fold increase in the rate at which women are raped within 40 years is an alarming trend, too alarming for it to have been kept so quiet.  Too alarming for Statcan to omit this data from their web site.

Canada already had a rape conviction rate almost 10 times higher than Japan, so the authorities in Canada *must* have been curious about what was happening to their society.   In addition, Japan's 1991 rate of .031 convictions per 100,000 population represented a 32% decrease during the same time that Canada's jumped five fold, which is something else that should have made Canadian law enforcement officials very curious.   If Japan's rate represents an optimum crime/punishment ratio, then Canada could gain a lot by learning what it is about Japan that they can have such a stable society without such a large prison population.  Instead, this fact was glossed over and now Canada has a rape conviction rate at least 56 times higher than Japan, a very costly proposition.

It's possible that Canadian feminists discovered that Canada's rate was one half to one third that of England's rate of 1.0 rape convictions per 100,000 population and decided to do something about it.   Fortunately, England didn't fall into the feminist trap and has maintained a relatively stable conviction rate which is now half of Canada's.  Unfortunately, their conviction rate is still 28 times greater than Japan's, which is a shocking difference.

Or perhaps Canadian feminists compared their rate to the US where the rate in 1970, before American feminists really took control, was already 8 times higher than theirs.  Why didn't American officials get alarmed in 1970 when we had a rape conviction rate 3 times higher than England, 8 times higher than Canada, and 73 times higher than Japan?

Did they really believe that American men were that much more violent?  Must have been, because look at what has happened since then!:
