Phyllis Schaffley on VMI
The editorial simply focuses on the continued "nanying" of VMI by
Judith Keith, the self-appointed VMI-overwatch poster girl of the Justice
Department. In the wake of the Supreme Court decision, Keith has
bombarded VMI with imperious requests for information which descend to
the nth degree of trivia:
VMI is to provide Justice with every variety of information which
appends to the impending arrival of the femmes:
 |
photographs of rooms and facilities, |
 |
diagrams; |
 |
samples of uniforms; |
 |
content and schedules of classes, |
 |
duties and sleep time, |
 |
menus and feeding schedules, etc. |
VMI has protested these requests to (and has so far been upheld by)
by Judge Kiser, on the Richmond District Court. The editorial points out
that it is abundantly clear that the ultimate agenda of the Justic Department
isn't simply to let VMI carry out the Supreme Court's direction, but to
insert a layer of Justice Department micromanagement into the process which,
if Keith is to be taken seriously, appears to have no expiration date.
